Odontectomy is a surgical procedure of extracting an impacted tooth. During this procedure, the surgeon first creates a flap to get access to the tooth. The tooth is covered by bone that needs to be removed in order to see the tooth. Rarely the surgeon is able to extract the whole tooth, most of the times he has to divide it into pieces. After that, he has to loosen up the tooth in the socket with special elevators before extracting it.
