Gums or also known as gingiva, is a soft tissue, the part of the oral mucosa that covers the necks of the teeth and the alveolar parts of the maxilla and mandible. The gingiva consists of three parts: marginal gingiva, attached gingiva, and interdental gingiva. The inflammation of the gums is also known as gingivitis. Gingivitis is the initial stage of periodontal disease, and if it is not treated on time it can affect the other periodontal tissues.
