Lithium disilicate ceramics

Lithium disilicate is a modification of the regular silicate ceramics. By incorporating lithium disilicate and lithium orthophosphate and increasing the crystal phase, the initial flexural strength was increased to approx. 360 MPA. The only two materials in this product class in the cad/cam area are Emax cad from ivoclar vivadent and Suprinity from Vita, which is also reinforced with approx. 10% zirconia. There are different degrees of translucency of these ceramics, with the highly translucent versions being particularly suitable for partial crowns, veneers and inlays, while the lower translucency ceramics are primarily used for full crowns. Among other things, Emax cad ceramics are also available in the MO variant, which is more suitable as a framework material and can be veneered with sintered ceramics in which fluoroapatite crystals are embedded.
