Selama prosedur ini, dokter bedah terlebih dahulu membuat flap untuk mengakses gigi. Gigi biasanya tertutup oleh tulang yang harus diangkat agar dapat terlihat. Dalam banyak kasus, dokter bedah tidak bisa mencabut gigi secara utuh dan harus membaginya menjadi beberapa bagian.
