In F\u00e4llen, in denen sich die Karies sehr nahe an die Zahnpulpa ausgebreitet hat, wird die Zahnpulpa nur mit einer sehr d\u00fcnnen Dentinschicht bedeckt. Um zu verhindern, dass die Pulpa \u00e4u\u00dferen Einfl\u00fcssen ausgesetzt wird, muss sie mit einem speziellen Material bedeckt werden. Zahn\u00e4rzte verwenden Calciumhydroxid oder MTA. Beide Mittel haben eine beruhigende Wirkung auf die Pulpa und regen sie an, eine Schicht aus reparierendem Dentin zu bilden, das eine sch\u00fctzende Funktion hat.
